Remember the elections of 2006? That sweeping victory of protest against the republicans? Pelosi and Reid were supposed to give them hell, no more vacationing rubber stamp Congress? Apparently the exit polls weren’t the only thing we got wrong in that election. The Senate let by Democrat In Name Only Harry Reid, has passed a FISA bill that would allow for telecom immunity and the president has called on the house to agree to it. The bill had large bi-partisan support, specifically surrounding the telcom immunity issue. (more…)

Apparently, not only is the executive branch so powerful and so omniscient it doesn’t exist, those who used to be known as the members of it – President Bush and Dick Cheney have decided that laws are for other people. Two deals the administration is working on would effectively protect corporate America from any sort of legal redress when they spy on you, or wantonly murder civilians in Iraq, or anywhere else they are providing “security”. Playing to type, Dick Cheney just gave a speech at the well-funded conservative echo chamber The Heritage Foundation calling for making the Protect America First Act permanent. This act allows for the warrant-less wiretapping of Americans and others abroad. It would also allow for retroactive immunity for the telecoms who acted of their own accord in giving over to the President the records of their customers. Harry Reid, who is apparently no longer even playing at being a democrat, is ready to give both of these things to Cheney. (more…)
