President Bush vetoed the sweeping 2008 defense bill after concerns were raised by Iraq over one provision that would freeze Iraqi assets in US financial institutions. The Iraqi government threatened to pull the $20-30 billion it currently has in US financial institutions if the provision were to become law. Now, democrats are contending that the president cannot pocket-veto while congress is in session and may override if the veto is seen to be legitimate. (more…)
