Multiple sources have now confirmed that former Pakistani Prime Minister Bhutto is dead. Apparently shot at close range before a suicide attack which injured her further. The attack is believed to be carried out by supporters of Musharraf. We’ll be following this story throughout the day and updating this thread.

Biometrics is the buzz in identification technology these days. Saturday, the Washington Post reported on a $1 billion project, called Next Generation Identification, being shopped around by the Federal Bureau of Investigation to build the worlds “largest computer database of peoples’ physical characteristics.” The FBI already houses one of the largest databases of biometric, but this 10-year contract will look to expand the database and make it searchable to the over 900,000 federal, state and local law enforcement agents who have access to it now. Fingerprints, DNA, iris patters, palm prints and face shape are among the most common measures of biometrics – but soon, voice signature, walking patters and other less definable characteristics will be able to give away your identity to law enforcement, for good or ill.

EU Ministers have passed carbon emissions quotas on the airline industry. The US, true to delusional form, as threatened legal action. This comes on the heels of the US passing an Energy Bill which contains very limited improvements toward reversing climate manipulation. (more…)

New Attorney General Michael Mukasey is walking a fine line between being just another Bush crony and someone who could actually try and repair the damage done during the Fredo years at DoJ.  While he’s revised DoJ policy to limit contacts with the White House, he also argued before the American Bar Association in support of retroactive telecom immunity and FISA “reform”. Forgetting for a moment the overall class-less, degrading, internationally embarrassing freak show that has been our now two year election cycle that’s taken over our lives every other day of the week, we really take issue with it interfering with our holidays. Especially when it’s Mike Huckabee interfering. His new ad in his ongoing campaign for Pope makes it hard for us to keep our egg nog down:
